Are Cats Good for Your Health?

Are you always stressed out due to the demands of everyday life dealings but couldn’t have time to enroll in a yoga or meditation class, or barely have the motivation to go out and party or do retail therapy to de-stress because you need to save money for the future? Then why not consider owning a pet? Pets provide exceptional social support and companionship for humans—truly a man’s best friend, and they help relieves stress. You no longer have to go anywhere because going home to your lovable pets is enough to make you forget the bad vibes that went on.  You can snuggle up on the couch all day and just enjoy cuddling with these amazing life forms.

Cats are good choices for pet ownership. Some ignore the idea because of complaints on having allergies due to cat fur contact, but what these people failed to learn is that early exposure to cats help improve immune function. Since cats are more tamed and diplomatic than dogs, they are recommended for children to pet because getting used to furry animals will trigger children’s immunity. Also, cats are the best companions for the elders because they do not require daily physical activities and they are low maintenance to care for.

Many are curious to find out are cats good for your health. The University of Minnesota conducted a research led by Farhan Siddiq, MD on the health benefits of cat ownership. He found out pet owners exhibit less anxiety and stress, which is beneficial for heart disease prevention. Meanwhile, the University of Buffalo conducted a research on the relationship of having a four-legged friend when a human friend isn’t available for a group of hypertensive stockbrokers of New York City, especially during bad times at the stock market. The research finding shows a more stable cardiovascular condition of those participants who have a pet dog or cat than the non-pet owners. This study reveals that pets are more effective in helping humans achieve low blood pressure levels than medications can. American Stroke Association spokesman Daniel Lackland, MD says that pets make us feeling better, thus is beneficial for our overall health condition.

Cats show their unconditional love to their owners, which the latter provides them as well in return, and they know when their owners are lonely or upset. This mutual understanding between a pet and the owner makes them an excellent tandem. In conclusion, no matter what kind of animal you intend to own, pets make your hearts happy and healthy.
